Behind the Beautiful Forevers

October 18, 2012 // Filed under Blog

The next book discussion to be held by Bernardsville Library’s book group, Memoirs and Coffee, is the narrative non-fiction selection Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo.  The author examined the lives of dwellers in Annawadi, an impoverished Mumbai settlement over a three year period as India’s economic boom gave hope, often a false hope, to these particular inhabitants.  The story of hope on the edge of despair is reflected in the daily lives of several individuals selected by Ms. Boo to represent the whole.  Behind the Beautiful Forevers will be discussed on Tuesday, October 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room.   New members are encouraged to attend, and copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.
