Friday Afternoon at the Movies: "For Whom the Bell Tolls"

Join us to watch “For Whom the Bell Tolls” (1943) starring Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman. The script is based on the 1940 eponymous novel by Ernest Hemingway. The film is about an American International Brigades volunteer, Robert Jordan (Cooper), who is fighting in the Spanish Civil War against the fascists. During his desperate mission to blow up a strategically important bridge to protect Republican forces, Jordan falls in love with a young woman guerrilla fighter (Bergman). Join us to watch “The Big Sick” (2017). Loosely based on a real-life romance, Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani and grad student Emily Gardner fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash.
