Charles James: Beyond Fashion
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Bernardsville Library
One of America’s most original designers, the legendary Charles James (1906–1978), is the subject of the inaugural exhibition of the newly renovated Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The show examines the career of the legendary 20th century Anglo-American couturier, whose work has been described as going beyond fashion to become fine art, and features some 100 of James’ unique creations – clothes of complex design and seaming which bring together fine dressmaking, sculptural form, and the mathematical thinking of an engineer. A Met Museum lecture with Vivian Gordon. Free. Advance sign-up is requested.
