Lincoln TunnelAngus Kress Gillespie, Professor of American Studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, takes a fresh look at the planning and construction of two key links in the transportation infrastructure of New York and New Jersey—the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels. Placing the structures into a meaningful cultural context, he’ll explore these two monumental works of civil engineering and the public that embraced them, and describe the building of the tunnels and the people who worked there–then and now. This program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Free. Advance sign-up is requested.
