Job Opening: Technical Services / Community Engagement Manager

The Bernardsville Public Library is looking for an MLIS or equivalent who will manage our ILS, provide cataloging and first-responder PC and networking support, and will work with existing staff to connect with the community as part of our dedicated management team.

As a stand-alone library, we depend on this position to keep the systems heart of our library – our ILS – up and running. At the same time, we need someone who is eager to work with our stakeholders and is a connector – someone who loves learning about people’s interests and who gets excited about connecting those people to their local library.

Satisfy your inner geek by maintaining the ILS server and database (performing backups, installing client software on staff workstations, and assisting in basic network and PC/peripheral troubleshooting); cataloging and supervising the ordering and processing of all library material, and generating statistics and reports.
Then come out from behind the computer and help us develop original ways to connect with our community by coordinating with existing staff to monitor stakeholder needs and interests. Develop strategies for library engagement, and cultivate and maintain partnerships and connections between the Library, individual users, and the community as a whole to provide an innovative range of services and activities.
You’ll also provide assistance to patrons in locating materials and information and in using library technology (devices and databases); assist in the selection, evaluation, and maintenance of the collection; and help out at the Circulation Desk when needed.
What are we looking for?
The ideal Technical Services / Community Engagement Manager believes in the in the power of libraries to dramatically impact lives. You will contribute to growing the capacity of our staff to think about and apply a human-centered service design lens to public sector innovation. The right person for this position will have a strong ability to work and think creatively about challenges facing libraries today, and will look beyond libraries to bring pioneering thought and creativity to seeing library service through a new lens. You have an MLS/MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited school and have (or be eligible for) a New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate.
Provide at least one description of innovation that you initiated. It can be a program or service, a way of looking at a problem or situation, or some other change in thought processes that led to improvement or to a different way of viewing things for a group or organization you were involved with. It does not have to be library-related, but should be fairly recent. Submit on a separate piece of paper and label it “Pop Quiz.”
Compensation and application instructions:
Salary range is $ 51,783.00 – $53,500.00 and includes an attractive benefits package.
