Honeybees and Beekeeping

Date: Aug 22, 2019
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Bernardsville Library

The plight of native pollinators and the managed honey bee has been recognized as a serious agricultural problem worldwide. Destruction of native habitat through land development, negative effects of pesticide use, and a parasitic mite that weakens the honeybee have all contributed to the dwindling of honeybee and wild bee populations. Adele Barree, retired librarian and sideline beekeeper for nearly 10 years, will share her love of the European honeybee, Apis mellifera, some of the joys and challenges of beekeeping, and a few things we can all do to help the honeybees. The talk will conclude with a tasting of several varietal New Jersey honeys. Free. Advance sign-up is requested. Click here to sign up.
